Garmin Instructions
On Cumberland Island, It's great having a map. Because of the shifting nature of a barrier island and the other mammals who share our trails - while also making their own (horse, pig, deer and armadillo) - it's always good to keep your wits about you. It's event better if you have a Garmin GPS to make sure you're on the right track. Here are instructions for uploading Cumberland Island's trail system into your Garmin. It's easy as 1, 2, 3.
1) Plug the Garmin GPS unit into your computer and copy the attached .kmz file into the Garmin\Custom Maps directory.
2) Unplug and restart the GPS unit. If the map doesn’t appear, press the Page button until you get to the map screen, press the Menu button, select Setup Map, select Custom Maps, select the Cumberland Island map, and select the Enable button. If the button says Disable, press Quit.
3) Delete any other files in the Custom Maps director.
(Sometimes you have to restart the GPS unit a few times before the map appears.)
